"About the STSB"
The Stone Table String Band
The Stone Table String Band gets its name from an event in the pages of one of C. S. Lewis’ classic children’s books. In it, a great Lion was sacrificed upon an ancient stone table to pay for the crimes of a rebel and a traitor. After the execution, the stone table broke in two and the guiltless Lion lived again to fight on to final victory over the forces that had ensnared the traitor. In that world, a broken stone table became the cornerstone on which to rebuild the land. In our world, there is such a place, and there was such an event. We know the Guiltless One who was sacrificed and lives again. That place, that event and that Person is our foundation and the symbol of our purpose.
The term "string band" is an old-fashioned phrase to denote a small group of musicians who make most of their music with acoustic stringed instruments such as the guitar, banjo and mandolin. We are a group of musicians who sing for the joy of it and don’t feel that a song is naked if all it’s got is a flat top 6-string and a banjo. It means that for us the song is the center of attention, not the producer, performer or engineer.
Tanignak Productions is a team of musicians led by Timothy Smith, whose goal is to find, sing and share music that would otherwise go unnoticed, but that really blesses people who hear it. We get our name from a beautiful lake at Camp Woody, Alaska, a place where many of us have worked through the years (see the logo). If you have a song, a tape, a dream, contact us. We may be able to help you share your music so that others may enjoy it, as you have enjoyed ours. Our website is tanignak.com and our email address is Tanignak@aol.com
